DIY: Easy Homemade Dog Treats

4 Ingredient Peanut Butter Dog Treats

This is our pup Ellie. She's a rescue through Wags and Whiskers MN and we're so glad to have added her to our family! The first thing I did when we knew we wanted to adopt a pup was to run out and buy the basic supplies needed to bring her home. While I was picking up the bowl, food, kennel, leash etc. and I was looking at the dog treats.

The list of ingredients was repulsive. I am not one to scoff at eating something out of a box or can but to feed my dog something that sounds like it was created in a lab is ridiculous! So I decided to bake some fresh treats for her arrival.

Example of store bought treats that are bad for your dog!

Ingredients:
  •  1 Cup of Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons of Baking Powder
  • 1/2 Cup of Peanut Butter
  • 1 Tablespoon of Honey
  • 1/2 Cup of Hot Water
Directions:
  1.  Preheat oven to 375°
  2. Mix the flour and baking powder together in a bowl
  3. In another bowl mix together the peanut butter, honey, and hot water. Stir mixture until peanut butter is melted and it has a smooth texture. Slowly mix in the contents from the dry bowl and stir until completely mixed. Add more water if the mixture is too dry to roll out or add flour if the mixture is to wet.
  4. Roll dough out onto a lightly floured surface with the thickness of 1/4" which will make the perfect size dog treat
  5. Use a cookie cutter ( I used a medium heart shape) and place on an ungreased baking sheet. I needed two large sized ones to fit all the treats on
  6. Bake for 18 minutes or until lightly brown. The smaller cookie cutter you have the faster they will bake. Make sure to store in an airtight container!
  7. Let your pup enjoy!

These treats are great! My pup won't even eat the store bought ones if you offer her one. I guess she's picky now!

Stay Crafty!
